Although he kept inventing when his first daughter was born, he did so within a large corporation specialised in gas rig generators for off-shore gas exploitation, where waste-heat must be controlled. SAVING RESOURCES TODAY IS DOABLE !
Yesterday we were explaining that photovoltaic solar was a real alternative as far as electricity production was concerned; the achievements, improvements, and all the entrepreneurs like us that are trying to contribute to COP21 will allow to make our energy production more responsible. Different solutions can complement one another, and they improve the power plants that take over from intermittent energy sources when necessary.
Atoll Energy recover thermal losses that go with producing electricity, and use them in order to generate several combine applications, to increase efficiency.

ENERGY IS NERVER BOUNDLESS
Today is when we realize that even with a team that aims to multiply energies, there is only 24 hours in a day.
But because we have to keep our word, we will demonstrate that energy is never boundless, even when renewable.
We are hoping that by now you master the principle of the Carnot Cycle : in systems based on the transformation of heat into electricity
there is a starting energy – primary energy that needs to be used in the most efficient way.

NO MORE WASTE, LET’S USE EXISTING RESOURCES
The Maldives are out in the Indian Ocean. This small island state is especially prone to climate change and rising water levels. The atolls’ peak is a mere 2.3 metres.
Atoll Energy solutions started out here. 5 year later… Atoll Energy created a tool – the Energy boxes – which gives a reliable and precise reading for customers’ energy installations – renewing and optimising their installations and maximising available resources. Stéphane is the Head of Energy Audit Project Management at Atoll Energy. He’s now installing a measurement solution for Clud Med’s Lagoon Villas with Olivier, Gavin and the Clud Med team.

RE-ENERGISING THE FUTURE
Today it’s Sunday, but the team is not resting yet: Stéphane is still in Kani (Maldives), Michel in Provence, and Thibault and Elena in Paris for the “RE-energising the Future” event in Palais Brongniard. Indeed Atoll Energy has been invited at this high-level event organized by IRENA, the adgency advocating for 100% of renewable energy in island States.
The “RE-energising the Future” event gathers government leaders in order to discuss their plans for scaling up renewable energy investments…

HOW TO PRODUCE ENERGY ON A SMALL ISLAND ?
While the sensors that we have installed on the villas on stilts of Kanifinolhu island (Maldives) keep recording their consumption profiles, we will explained here the energy system on this type of island. Try to figure yourself in the middle of the ocean, on one of those mini-island part of an atoll, tiny piece of island made of coral and sand (find more here if you wish to know where the ‘ring’ shapes of some atoll come from). As far as the landscape is concerned, this is Eden; when it comes to connecting each small island with a cable, however, it’s rather tricky. Thus the need for each island to have its own decentralized production, also known as ‘microgrid’…

HEAT IS A GREAT ENERGY !
Yesterday was the #EnergyDay at COP21, we will give you some more details about how energy could be used much more efficiently. You remember that we spoke about the various form of energy, the one that we mostly use is electricity. It is very convenient as it can be used instantly for all kind of things, it is also quite easy to transport on long distances. Electricity is a rich energy. But it is also because it takes a lot of energy to produce electricity, we already spoke about it, the efficiency of the thermal power plants is almost always lower than 50%, the photovoltaic conversion has an efficiency of around 15%, which means that most of the primary energy that feeds our electricity production system cannot be recovered as electricity. Indeed this energy is dissipated as heat!

HOW TO SECURE THE EFFICIENCY OF OUR SOLUTIONS ?
The way we use energy is at the heart of energetic efficiency, hence the need to focus on consumption in order to minimize our energetic impact, without reducing our comfort. First of all, we need to understand that the energy we are using goes through several transformations before providing utilities.
When we assess the energy saving that our solutions allow, we take into consideration the whole chain of transformation in order to target the best ‘final energy’ and to make sure that our solutions create the best ‘primary energy’ saving.

THE QUADRITHERM : TO CONFIRM THE EFFICIENCY
The Quadritherm demonstration plant is built according to the patented architecture of Atoll Energy. It uses heat losses of a diesel generator to heat domestic hot water, to provide chilled water for air conditioning and to desalinate sea water. The consumption profiles of our clients recorded thanks to our audit system are reproduced on the demonstration plant to test its capacity to respond to the customer needs. Energy load profiles are an important matter for the good operation of a production system.
